6 Years and 19 Outfits Ago

6 years ago I met a boy. He had long brown hair and was really shy. In fact, he was so shy that even though he thought I was kinda cute he wouldn't talk to me. (Except for that one time in which he says he did, but I cannot recall) But one day I decided I would introduce myself.

"Hi." *sticks out hand* "I don't know you. I'm Cassidy."

Bold? Yes. A little too forward? Maybe. Best decision of my life? Definitely.

Today is my boyfriend and my sixth anniversary. 6 years ago we were still in high school and now we are adults, he's already graduated and I'm about to graduate from college, but I couldn't be more in love.

A note about my outfit today: I left my original blue stripped shirt at my parents house, so I'm substituting this one until I can get it back. And I can't believe that this is the first time I have worn this blazer! And that there are still some other things that I picked that I haven't worn yet. So new and exciting things yet to come!

Seventeen And Eighteen

I have the Monday blues. Okay, I probably have the Monday blues every Monday, but today it is especially bad. I just spent five whole days doing nothing. No work. No school. It was amazing.

And now, it is Monday and I have three papers, four finals, and one take home final to do in the next two weeks and I'm kind of freaking out a little.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is the month long Christmas break that A&M racks up. Just everyone lets cross our fingers and hope I don't pull all my hair out before then.

I Am Sixteen Going On Seventeen

And by that I mean that I am on #16 and tomorrow I will be on #17.

So a couple of things I want to say today.

1. Yes, that is a log home behind me. No, not a log cabin. A log home. And yes, that is where my parents live and where I grew up.
2. Yes, I did color my hair.
3. Boy do I love coming home to my mother's closet and her plethora of scarves. I'm am in desperate need of some shopping, but since I'm only halfway through my 30, I unfortunately cannot. So it is fun to go to my mom's closet and pick out scarves. Because those are accessories and they don't count. Yay, loophole shopping!
4. Should I get a flickr pro account? I just reached my maximum uploads for the month on the regular kind.

Halfway There

I have been posting pictures of my outfits for a little over two weeks now, and I have to say I'm starting to feel a little weird about it. Not because I think some creeper is out there or whatever, but because I don't know if it is vain of me. Who am I to say or suggest that people would want to look at my outfits? Or that they would be inspired by them?

I don't particularly know why I feel this way, because I read a lot of outfit of the day blogs, and those girls don't give off one ounce of vanity. They seem like really down to earth people. So why am I feeling this way? Is it a justified feeling for a new blogger like myself?

These are some questions I have been asking myself lately. Especially over the Thanksgiving break. I don't know the correct response to give when someone asks me why I post pictures of myself everyday. "Well....because it is a part of the challenge." But that isn't the whole truth. Because I started the blog in the first place to inspire people, whether that be through my outfits, or other means.

I don't know. But here are my outfits pictures for today. The sun kind of washed out the colors of my shirt/cardigan. So, sorry.

Sawed Off

Oh Thanksgiving, how I love you. What holiday could be better? Christmas? Maybe. Fourth of July? Not even close. Thanksgiving... a holiday that brings all of my favorite things together.

Family. Football. Food. Beating the hell outta Texas. What more could I ask for?

An Elephant Never Forgets

Nor apparently do elephants ever get to experience Fall. And by elephants, I mean me.

Okay let me back up real quick. We have some strange (but awesome) traditions here at A&M. Like not walking on the grass or wearing a ring that is more important than your diploma. One of our traditions is Elephant Walk.

The week before the last regularly scheduled football game, all of the seniors gather and go on Elephant Walk. It symbolizes the end of the usefulness of the seniors to the student body. And since an elephant wonders off aimlessly to die, as do the seniors on our Elephant Walk. We walk around campus, visiting places of worth and remember our times here as Aggies.

But the best part is they bring in real elephants that we can take pictures with! I didn't get out of class early enough today to take one "officially" but you can bet your bottom dollar that I snuck up on the side and snapped a picture or two.

So here's to being seniors! And to being elephants! And here's not to the fact that it was 85 degrees outside while we were walking around our monster of a campus.

The Temptations

I walk into Target today to get a couple of things. Toilet paper, popcorn, Dr. Pepper, peanut butter M&Ms, you know the essentials. And I just so happen to walk by the women's clothing area and see that their normally only 4 racks of sale, has expanding to 6, possibly 8. I can't help myself, so I walk over and shift through the racks. Why I put myself through this torture I don't know? But I find the cutest skinny khakis. In my size. 50% off.

You'll be proud to know that I walked away from those pair of pants and left them on the rack. They called after me, "Cassidy! Don't you walk away from me!"

Me: I can't buy you I'm sorry!

Pants: If you walk away now, you can never buy me!

Me: I'll just have to take that chance.

Bangs, Bangs, or No Bangs?

So I finally have time to get my hair done after Thanksgiving, and I'm struggling with an age old question. Bangs, or no bangs?

I have been trying to grow my bangs out to normal hair length, but always about this time I get antsy and want to cut them. So I wanted to get another opinion. What do y'all think? Bangs or no bangs?

But It Goes To Eleven

So this is my "I-saw-harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-at-midnight-and-i'm-too-tired-to-do-anything-else" outfit. This is also my "I-saw-harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-at-midnight-and-i'm-too-tired-to-do-anything-else" photo location. My backyard. It is dead and gross and full of holes--thanks Captain. But hey, it's a backyard and that is more than some people can say.

But this weekend is going to be great. Tonight I'm going to go to Midnight Yell, my last one of my college career. And tomorrow the Aggies are going to Beat The Hell Outta Nebraska. And my lovely boyfriend is going to be in town the whole weekend. On the downside, I have to write two papers.

There's A Spirit...

I've got a little story for you.

101 years ago a tradition began here at Texas A&M University. A bonfire was built on campus to generate enthusiasm for students. The bonfire began as basically just a giant pile of trash. Random wood found from here and there.

Over the years it grew and grew, becoming one of the most time honored traditions here at A&M. Students transformed into lumberjacks and sawed down trees to construct what was rapidly becoming a monster of a bonfire.

In 1978 the students decided to change the shape of the bonfire from a teepee to more of a wedding cake. Layer upon layer of trees. Standing in the middle was a  massive center pole, made from two telephone poles spliced together by cutting matching notches. Thousands of log were stacked around and up the pole and held together by wire.

Students worked day and night to complete the stack before burn. Burn took place a couple of nights before the Texas A&M/Univeristy of Texas football game. Thousands and thousands of people came out to see the burn and take part in a yell practice and to get pumped up to Beat The Hell Outta t.u.

90 years after the first on-campus bonfire, something went wrong and the bonfire collapsed at 2:42 am on November 18, 1999.

Since the bonfire was built in a spiral pattern it was designed to collapse in on itself during burn. Many students were trapped inside the pile of about 5000 logs.

27 were injured and 12 died that night.

Every year we have bonfire remembrance at 2:42 am on November 18. Even though most of the students who attend A&M now did not know any of the students in the collapse, we remember the twelve students who gave their lives keeping the spirit alive.

Behind me is the Bonfire Memorial. It is centered around where the  bonfire stood. Each doorway represents a fallen student. The inside of each was is carved with quotes and dedications to each student. One that always sticks out to me is Timothy Duran Kerlee, Jr. '03

“Help my buddies first.” . . . uttered Tim as he lay on the fallen stack. He then directed rescue workers to five others whom he could see before allowing them to free him.
Eagle Scout Tim Kerlee was posthumously granted Boy Scout’s highest award, the MEDAL OF MERIT, for his heroic actions.

It is a very sobering place to be. May we always remember.

Oops

Why oops you ask? Well today I accidentally wore a pair of jeans not in my 30 for 30 picks. I say accidentally because this morning when I got dressed I just picked up the pair of jeans that was on the floor in my closet and put those on not even realizing that they weren't a pick.

This all comes about from last night when I was going to do laundry. You see I was going to wash my skinny jeans from my picks so I put on another pair of jeans. So that is how they ended up on the floor of my closet and how I ended up putting them on this morning. I didn't even end up washing the others because I am a lazy laundry bum.

I realized that I was wearing the wrong jeans after I had already left for class so I decided to just take pictures in those and tell y'all the story instead of putting on my other jeans and pretend I had wore them all day. They are my Levi's 524 jeans which I have been raving about. Come to think of it, why didn't I put them in my picks in the first place?

They were probably dirty. See? Lazy laundry bum.
